Getting Employers To Find You!
iGradu8.com is about to let you in on a few little tips that will make recruiters find you time and time again…
This is a question that puzzles some people, but when understood completely you will be able to make the alterations you need to improve the visibility of your CV online.
Recruitment companies love this method of finding new graduates, and attempting to match you with the right jobs. In theory this sounds wonderful, until you consider what they are actually doing. Once you have registered with an online job site you will be required to build a profile, upload a cv, and name your cv. Do you really think that this profile is for your benefit? Obviously, it will allow you to demonstrate your competencies, a pretty image of yourselves, and yes it will make you searchable by employers.
The way in which employers/recruitment companies find their ideal candidates is through typing in ‘keyphrases’, in the exact same way to how you search on Google. You type in the phrase of your choice e.g. “How Do People Find My CV?”. Google then displays a list of sites that answer this question. Recruitment companies do this exact same process, but rather than typing in a question, they enter the keyphrase which best suits the demands of the vacancy that are attempting to fill e.g. “Marketing Graduate 2:1 Manchester”. The job site will then display a list of the candidates who live in/around Manchester, who have a marketing degree, at an upper second-class level.
Once you understand how they are searching for you, you can then begin to manipulate this process to your individual requirements. iGradu8.com have heard of graduates being contacted 5 times, on different occassions for the same company, though using this highly specialised method. Do you think that this is a coincidence? We think not.
Here are our top 3 tips for making your cv found time, and time again:
- When writing up your cv, attempt to create content that matches the specific search phrases you want, e.g. if you are a child phychologict graduate, who specilaises in ADHD, attempt to type the keyphrases frequently within your cv, but ensure that the writing remains fluent and proffesional.
- When creating a profile within job sites, and you are creating a ‘biography’ or an ‘About Yourself’ page, remember to retain that specific search keyphrase within your copy.
- This is the important one… When naming your cv, attempt to create a title that is unique, highly specific, and one that is going to stand out over other candidates. You need to consider how many graduates there are within an individual area, who hold the exact same qualification. The more targeted your cv title is, the more likely you are to appear when recruiters are looking for a specific skill.
